Privileges The Private Pilot License allows the holder to conduct international flights with passengers during daylight hours under visual flight rules. This is the license required if the pilot wishes to add an endorsement such as a float, night, instrument or multi-engine rating. This license is also required if the student wishes to pursue aviation as a career and obtain a Commercial Pilot License. RequirementsThe Transport Canada Private Pilot License examination must be passed with a minimum score of 60%. The minimum age to solo is 14; however, one must be age 17 to hold a license. A category 3 medical is required. Forty hours of classroom instruction is required and periodic flight briefings may be necessary. A Transport Canada examination in Air Law, Meteorology, Navigation and General Airmanship must be written. A Transport Canada flight test must also be completed.
